OmniStrat was founded in 2009 to redefine how small- and medium-size businesses plan and execute their strategies. After more than a decade working in the business intelligence (decision-support, reporting and analytics) industry, it became apparent to the founder, Matt Johnson, that the critical need was not more reports, but a simple, effective and economical way to manage the planning and execution process. OmniStrat is this vision.
Matt has been a member of the founding management teams for three start ups, with two successful fundraisings and one successful exit under his belt. He served as Director of Operations with angel-backed Hear Music, starting in 1990, which was sold to CML Group and later to Starbucks Corp. It eventually became Starbucks’ in-house brand for their music label and XM Satellite Radio channel. In 2000 he was Director of Sales with Zero Stage Capital-backed Gazelle Systems, the first CRM system for the hospitality industry.
Just prior to founding OmniStrat, Matt coordinated global product strategies for UK-based Bowers & Wilkins’ consumer electronics business unit, which produced the award-winning Zeppelin iPod speaker. He was based in Boston and at B&W’s world-famous Steyning Research Establishment in the UK.
He also spent 12 years with early-stage and established companies selling business intelligence software and professional services to Fortune 1000 companies. Matt grew up in Winchester, Massachusetts and received his MBA from Babson College. He currently lives in Davis Square in Somerville, MA and volunteers for the Boston Product Managers Association’s Executive Council Committee as a mentor to new product managers.
